A new police headquarters is to be built in North Cumbria two years after the existing base was hit by floods. The county's police authority has agreed to pay for the building of a state-of the-art station at Durranhill, East Carlisle.
Since the floods in January 2005 the force has been based at a temporary site in the city centre.
A new custody unit is already based at the Durranhill site and has been up and running for two months.
The new building is due to open in 2008.
