Talkin Tarn County Park is a lake in farm and woodland |
A deal to secure the future of one of Cumbria's most popular beauty spots is finally agreed. The future of Talkin Tarn, which includes a lake and woodland near Brampton, has been in doubt since 2002.
Now a deal has been agreed which will see Carlisle City Council take over the running of the site from current owners Cumbria County Council.
The deal involves Cumbria County Council funding a clean-up of toxic blue algae and Carlisle investing 1m.
A spokesman for Carlisle City Council said: "The county has indicated that they are prepared to indemnify the city for a period of two years for the cost of treating the blue-green algae.
"As part of the revised business plan, the city council also agreed to invest 1m towards improving the existing amenities."
Improvements include new toilet and classroom facilities, a refurbished caf and gift shop area and better public access and footpaths.
