Boy racers force car park curfew
Metal gates are being put up at a Cumbrian town centre car park after so-called boy racers turned the site into a rally course.

The gates to Portland Walk multi-storey car park in Barrow will be shut each evening until the next morning.

The decision follows many complaints, including from theatre goers at Forum 28 who said they could hear the car engines revving above performances.

Funding has been secured and the gates will be put in place shortly.

Forum 28 manager Sandra Baines said: "The rooftop car park is above us. When the cars are driving around on the rooftop, you can hear the noise in the theatre."

Barrow Council has ordered galvanised gates which will be fitted next week and close each evening at 1830 BST, opening early the next morning.

Parking Services Manager Karen Hindle said: "The problem has been brought up at various meetings, including Crime and Disorder Partnership, and we have looked at various ways to try and stop vehicles up there."
