Mountain rescue team's busy year
A mountain rescue team in Cumbria has reported its busiest ever year, after a spate of call-outs over the Christmas holiday period.

The Keswick Mountain Rescue Team undertook 88 full call-outs and 36 alerts during 2005, more than any other year in its history.

These included six rescues between Christmas Day and 2 January.

Three casualties were transferred to Keswick Cottage Hospital, the future of which is being considered.

The Keswick team says this demonstrates the need for the cottage hospital to remain open.

The government has said that no decision on the future of the hospitals at Keswick, Brampton, Millom, Maryport, Cockermouth and Alston will be made without a full public consultation.
