Flooded city hosts commemoration
Flooding in Carlisle
The floods affected almost 2,000 homes in Carlisle
Residents affected by the January floods in Carlisle, and the emergency services which helped them, are invited to commemorative events one year on.

Carlisle City Council is marking the first anniversary with two "New Beginnings" concerts.

There will be music, dancers and messages of hope and encouragement, at the Crown and Mitre Hotel on 8 January.

Three people died in January when the region was hit by heavy storms, and a month's worth of rain fell in 24 hours.

Councillor Mike Mitchelson, leader of the city council, said: "The events will provide an opportunity to reflect on the floods as well as looking to the future."

The events are being organised by Carlisle Churches Together on behalf of Communities Reunited, a welfare initiative established in the aftermath of the flood.
