Natasha Bedingfield tops pop show

Headline acts have been announced for one of Cunmbria's biggest music events.

Multi-Brit nominee Natasha Bedingfield will be one of the top names performing at the pop2thepark open air concert in Carlisle in August.

Hip-hop artist Estelle will also perform. She won a Mobo for UK best newcomer in 2004 and has been voted best female Hip Hop artist since 2001.

Last year's event was blighted by the non-appearance of chart-topper Peter Andre, who got stuck in traffic.

More acts for the event, which is funded by Carlisle City Council, are due to be announced soon.

The council's community support manager, Rob Burns said: "Following the success of last year's pop2thepark event, which included performances from Liberty X, Lemar and Blazin' Squad, we are on the look out for some of the UK's best pop acts for this summer's event.

"It's great to include Natasha Bedingfield in our line up, as she's recognised as being one of the UK's best performers and songwriters."

Peter Andre was to have headlined last year's event, but he told event organisers he was unable to attend because of a traffic jam on the M25 near his London home.

Organisers say they were told Mr Andre would not be appearing less than three hours before he was due on stage.
