Doctor held after patient's death
A doctor has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of a 57-year-old Cumbrian woman.

West Cumbria Primary Care Trust said a GP had been suspended after "a serious clinical incident" which may have led to the death of a patient.

A 52-year-old man from Millom was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and released on bail. The dead woman was from Workington, said police.

The primary care trust said it had launched an investigation.

"This follows a serious clinical incident which may have resulted in the death of a patient," a statement from the trust said.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 57-year-old Workington woman.

"A 52-year-old man from Millom has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and released on police bail pending further inquiries."
