On Wednesday, South Lakeland Council will meet to discuss ways of raising cash to repair the crumbling sea front at Grange-over-Sands.

It is hoping to put together a bid for money from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

If successful, the revitalisation scheme called Time and Tide, will concentrate on restoring the site of the resort's old, open air pool.

Bridge crossings

Mayor of Grange-over-Sands, Ron Shapland, said: "We know that the promenade and bridges need to be repaired and the pool area needs to be sorted out as it has stagnated.

"The whole area has deteriorated over the years and it now needs capital investment."

The project is also being backed by Cumbria County Council and Rural Regeneration Cumbria.

Last year architects were commissioned to present ideas for improving the promenade including tackling the railway bridge crossings and site of the former swimming pool.
