Police honoured for flood efforts
Flooding in Carlisle
Parts of Carlisle were left uninhabitable after the floods
Dozens of Cumbria police officers and staff are being honoured for their actions during the floods which devastated Carlisle earlier this year.

Three people died in the storms and floods in January, which also left thousands of homes without power.

People were forced to move out of their homes and police patrols were stepped up to prevent looting.

Chief Constable Michael Baxter will present 33 Certificates of Commendation at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal was launched in the wake of the January floods, which made thousands of people temporarily homeless.

Cumbria police force's Rickergate station in Carlisle was among scores of buildings hit by floodwater.

Up to 300 officers had to use local authority buildings during repairs and prisoners were housed at cells at the force's headquarters in Penrith.
