The Drigg nuclear waste site is over 40 years old |
Residents are being invited to find out more about proposals to regulate the disposal of radioactive waste at Drigg in West Cumbria. The Drigg site is 6km south of Sellafield and contains tonnes of low level nuclear waste from nuclear facilities, universities and hospitals.
Two public meetings are being held at Drigg Village Hall on 13 and 14 July by the Environment Agency.
Nuclear Regulatory Group staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
The Environment Agency reviews all nuclear authorisations regularly to make sure they reflect modern standards and that radiation levels are as low as possible.
Proposed changes include introducing a single authorisation for the disposal of all different types of waste and new requirements for management systems.
