Market town to get 15-year revamp
A 15-year plan to change the face of a Teesside town has been unveiled.

The proposals are likely to see a multi-million pound redevelopment of the centre of Stockton and its historic market.

Among the proposals is the creation of a riverside village along the banks of the Tees as well as a major new hotel and food retail outlet.

The move follows similar plans for the redevelopment of neighbouring Middlesbrough's riverside areas.

A spokesman for Stockton Borough Council said: "The plan looks to maximise the potential of the town centre's two most significant physical assets, the River Tees and the High Street, exploiting the River Tees and the open air market as unique selling points.

"A riverside village will take full advantage of Stockton's waterside location, featuring bars and restaurants as well as new housing to bring people from the town centre to the river."
