The debate about wind farms in Cumbria is being taken to the House of Commons on Wednesday. It has been arranged by the MP for Workington, Tony Cunningham, after constituents expressed concerns about plans for wind turbines in the area.
Many locals believe the issue of wind farms, and where they should be placed, has not been properly addressed.
Mr Cunningham will be arguing for a set of guidelines to prevent turbines being built in unsuitable locations.
National policy
Planners in Allerdale recently turned down two applications for wind turbines on the Solway plain, but there are concerns that other plans will be put forward.
Mr Cunningham wants to make sure that proper consideration is given to where they would be sited.
He said: "A national policy has been published, but set alongside that we were told there would be guidelines which planning officers could refer to.
"We were told they would be available in autumn, but they haven't yet appeared.
"Part of the reason for having this debate is to make those drawing up the guidelines realise what an important landscape we have here, and I hope those guidelines will protect it.
"Allerdale is being developed and promoted as a tourist destination, and tourism brings millions of pounds into the local economy.
"If the situation of wind turbines in inappropriate places is going to damage this, then something has to be done."
