Decision on beauty spot sell-off
Talkin Tarn
Talkin Tarn is currently losing 30,000 a year
The future of one of Cumbria's best-known beauty spots will be decided in the new year.

Talkin Tarn, south of Brampton, has been in limbo after Cumbria County Council announced earlier this year that it wanted to sell it off.

Carlisle City Council wants to take over the management of the tarn and officers have been negotiating over its future with the county council.

An agreement is said to have been reached and the details will be finalised in the New Year.

Cumbria County Council says the sell-off will save about 30,000 a year.

But people who regularly use the 185-acre park and those living nearby mounted a campaign against the sale.

County Council bosses have assured campaigners that any sell-off will include guaranteed access to the site.

But they say the tarn was left to the people of Brampton and want more than just guarantees about public access.

The popular tourist attraction includes the 65-acre tarn, woodland and wetland, boating facilities, grazing land, campsite and a hotel.
