New water record for blind soldier
Mark Threadgold
Mark Threadgold said he would be back again next year
A blind powerboat racer has broken the world speed record for the fourth time in a week.

Mark Threadgold first broke the former record of 73mph in a test run on Lake Windermere, Cumbria, on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old improved the mark twice the following day, setting a new world blind water speed record of 91.66mph.

The former sergeant in the Royal Corps of Signals then capped off his week's achievements with a record of 99.1mph on Thursday.

Mr Threadgold, of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, said he was "delighted" with the new mark.

He said he hoped to return to the lake next year for another record attempt.

Mr Threadgold said he took on the challenge in a bid to raise 25,000 for St Dunstan's, a charity which helped him rebuild his life after he lost his sight in an accident four years ago.

The charity helps rehabilitate and train blind ex-servicemen and women.
