The Cumbria force wants an extra 100 officers this year |
A police force is turning to television for the first time in the hope of attracting 100 new recruits. Cumbria Police says it wants to boost its ranks by 300 by 2007.
It has already attracted 65 new recruits since April, but wants a further 113 by the end of the current financial year.
So it has come up with a TV campaign aimed at attracting people in the county to join up.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "This is the first time we have turned to television as part of our recruitment campaign.
"Two weeks of adverts begin on Monday.
"They will outline the quality of candidates we are looking for and information about how to formally apply.
"The recruitment drive is a result of the local policing team project, which aims to get 300 extra officers over the next four years.
"We need to actively recruit now to replacing those who retire or otherwise leave the force."
Earlier this year the Cumbria force received a share of 440m, given to forces in the north of England by the government, aimed at retaining and recruiting officers.
