Investigation into fish deaths
Dead fish
Hundreds of fish died in the incident

Officers from the Environment Agency are planning to survey a Cumbrian beck which has been polluted with thousands of gallons of slurry.

Three kilometres of the Lockholme Beck at Ravenstone Dale, near Kirkby Stephen, were damaged at the weekend.

The slurry is believed to have come from a store at a nearby farm.

Slurry contains toxins and strips oxygen from the water which suffocates the fish.

Steve Broughton from the Environment Agency said: "Fifty brown trout have been killed, an eel, and 400 other fish.

"Other invertebrates and aquatic life may have been damaged as well.

"Once we get the full picture we will know whether we have to restock the river."
