The fire damaged woodland near Ennerdale Water |
Visitors to the Lake District National Park this Easter are being warned to take extra care not to start fire. National Park officials are concerned that recent dry weather means any accidental fires could cause serious damage to forests and fells.
In the past four months only half of the normal rain has fallen over the Park.
As a result, woods, fields and fell paths are extremely dry and liable to burn quickly if a fire is accidentally started.
Earlier this week fire crews took 247 hours to extinguish a fire affecting 120 acres of woodland in Ennerdale.
The Lake District National park authority is putting warning notices about fires in all its tourist information centres throughout the park.
