Production at Coventry has been increased to meet demand |
Black cab firm London Taxis International (LTI) have reported a big increase in sales of their new model. Figures from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show 469 new TX4 taxis were sold in March, 37% more than the previous year.
The Coventry firm has seen record UK sales in each of the five months since the TX4 was launched.
So far this year it has sold 940 TX4 taxis, a 44% increase over the same period last year.
Matthew Cheyne, from LTI, said: "To meet this demand we have increased our production rate at our Coventry factory.
"The growth in sales is being driven by owners recommending the new TX4 to their fellow cabbies as well as positive feedback from passengers to taxi drivers, not just in London but throughout the UK."
The new TX4 model has been fitted with a cleaner Euro IV compliant diesel engine which runs on 5% Bio-Diesel fuel-mix.
