An outdoor performance area belonging to the Royal Shakespeare Company has been damaged in an arson attack. Emergency services were called to The Dell, next to Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, during the early hours of Wednesday.
An RSC spokeswoman said damage to seating and overhanging trees was extensive. The company said it would look at ways of salvaging the area.
The space was being used by amateur companies and drama students.
Salvage The Dell
The spokeswoman said: "A full programme of amateur theatre companies and drama students from across the country are scheduled to perform at The Dell throughout the summer.
"It was obviously such a popular element of the festival that we'd love to find a way to continue performing there.
"Over the next week we'll be looking at ways to salvage The Dell and keep alive the idea of a platform for students and amateurs to participate in the festival."
