Fresh fruit is on the menu for pupils at two secondary schools in the West Midlands as students prepare to open their own fruit smoothie bars. The students are being sent their own juicing equipment and mobile outlets so they can set up stalls.
They will also get regular deliveries of locally produced fresh fruit.
The scheme is being tried out at schools in Coventry and Tenbury Wells, Worcs, in a bid to teach the importance of regular fruit and vegetables.
Equipment and recipes
The schools taking part are Lyng Hall School in Coventry and Tenbury High School in Tenbury Wells.
Each school will get a custom-designed bar to provide the smoothies, juicing equipment and recipes.
The pilot is being run by Heart of England Fine Foods with funding from Advantage West Midlands.
More schools are being invited to apply for the scheme.
