Central Trains said they paid more than �22,000 in fines, costs and compensation, about 10 times more then their tickets would have cost.

Their names have also been listed on posters at stations around Birmingham, as part of a campaign to cut the number of people travelling without a ticket.

Since last March �261,577 has been paid and nearly 1,300 people convicted.

Central Trains said it has seen ticketless travel around the region dropping from 6% to 3%.

Tony Brown, director of West Midlands services at Central Trains, said: "We remain committed to pursuing passengers who do not pay their fare.

"The message is simple - Don't be a loser, buy a ticket."
