Former Ford president Sir Nick Scheele has become the first ever president of Coventry's Transport Museum. A prominent figure in the international motor industry, Sir Nick has strong connections to the city and has been chief executive of Jaguar Cars.
Joe Elliot, chair of the museum's board, said: "We are delighted he has taken on this role."
The museum is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in Coventry and is undergoing a 13m revamp.
Mr Elliot added: "The museum has grown beyond all recognition in the last 25 years and we are all extremely proud that it is directly contributing to the future of Coventry.
'Excellent facility'
"It is an ideal time for Nick to take on the president's role and reinforce the testament that the museum pays to the inventive and engineering skills of Coventry."
Sir Nick began work with Ford in 1966, moving to America in 1978. During his time with the company he rose to become chief operating officer and president of Automotive Operations.
He also served as chief executive of Jaguar cars.
Sir Nick is married with three children and lives near Coventry and is currently Chancellor of Warwick University.
He said: "Motoring has certainly changed the world in which we live today and Coventry has been at the heart of that transformation.
"Coventry Transport Museum is a marvellous reflection of the ingenuity of the people who worked and still do work in the motoring industry, an excellent educational facility for the city and an exciting visitor attraction."
