Belfry Golf Course
The Belfry is famed for its links with the Ryder Cup
Leading British golf course, the De Vere Belfry, has been sold to Irish-owned Quinn Group for 186m.

The deal for the Warwickshire course, 324-bedroom hotel and leisure complex is part of Quinn's UK expansion plans.

The Fermanagh-based group already has business interests, including hotels and pubs in the UK and Czech Republic, and a fitness centre in Ireland.

Famed for its links with the Ryder Cup, the Belfry's facilities will continue to be managed by the De Vere Group.

Liam McCaffrey, chief executive of the Quinn Group, said: "In addition to providing a satisfactory return on a stand alone basis, this asset will provide the group with an excellent base for meeting customers and business associates in high quality surroundings."

Mr McCaffrey said the group's UK businesses include a branch of Quinn Direct Insurance, which has opened offices in Salford Quays in Manchester.

Quinn Glass is also constructing a new modern manufacturing and bottling plant near Chester and the group is also expanding its radiator, plastic and building products businesses.
