A new footbridge designed to rival the Millennium Bridge in London is part of the redevelopment of the waterfront area of Stratford-upon-Avon.

The scheme has been unveiled after 18 months of public consultation.

Dave Nash, from the town's district council, said: "It will make sure that Stratford remains a destination of world importance."

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the Swan Theatre share the same site in the town.

It has been confirmed that a statue of Shakespeare, the Gower memorial, will remain on the canalside, following suggestions that it could be moved.

The district council, which has unveiled the plans alongside Warwickshire County Council, says the scheme will protect the future of the area beside the River Avon from Seven Meadows Road to the Stratford Leisure Centre.
