Pictures of drunk people are to be screened in a Warwickshire town centre in a bid to reduce violence.

Police will show CCTV footage of anti-social behaviour on the side of a police van at the Clock Tower in Rugby.

The footage, showing people urinating in streets, struggling to walk and lying on the ground, will be broadcast between 1900 and 2200 BST.

Managing director of Rugby Town Centre company, Robin Richter, said: "It's trying to give a lesson in reality."

Taken into custody

Pc Neil MacKenzie from Warwickshire Police added: "A lot of people will look at themselves and see how embarrassing they can be.

"The idea is to show people earlier on in the evening what they could look like later on when they have too much to drink."

Some of the footage was played on television sets in a shop window in the town centre on Friday.

Advice and information about the dangers and consequences of excess alcohol consumption will be available to revellers on Saturday evening.

But police say if people are found to be in a questionable state they will be taken into custody.
