Motorway services car crime falls
Vehicle crime at Corley services on the M6 has been virtually eradicated, a new study has found.

A report by North Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership also shows fear of crime has gone down in that part of the county.

The news comes after Warwickshire Police set up a special unit to tackle car thefts.

One of the country's first police community support officers at services also started work at Corley in January.

Public educated

Three years ago the force identified vehicle crime as a serious problem in north Warwickshire, as criminals were travelling there from surrounding areas in the West Midlands.

It responded by establishing the Rural Auto Crime Unit to deal with offenders and allow officers to spent time educating the public about improving the security of cars.

The project has been so successful that it is now being rolled out across the county.

In the latest crime survey for north Warwickshire fear of vehicle crime had fallen by 10% in three years.
