School flu outbreak 'contained'

Bolitho School
It is not known where the Bolitho sixth formers contracted the virus

An outbreak of swine flu at a school in Cornwall has been contained, according to the director of public health.

Nine sixth form pupils at Bolitho School in Penzance are being treated with anti-viral medication in the school's sanatorium.

The sixth form is on a separate site and the Health Protection Agency said it was unnecessary to close the school.

Director of Public Health Felicity Owen said all the school's sixth formers have been given Tamiflu.

Teachers and families who were in close contact with the confirmed cases have also received Tamiflu.

The nine students were diagnosed with the virus after falling ill on 15 June. It is not known where they contracted the disease.

The total number of confirmed cases in the UK since April has risen to nearly 2,000.
