The TA is integral to the British Army |
Soldiers from the Territorial Army (TA) in Devon and Cornwall are planning a series of events to celebrate the organisation's 100th anniversary. The Queen has already sent a birthday card and message of thanks to every member of the TA. TA soldiers will be marking the centenary with others from around the UK in a march down The Mall in London on Saturday. The TA represents about a quarter of the British Army's total manpower Brig Tony Dalby-Welsh, of the Wessex Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, said: "The TA makes a considerable contribution to operations, now and over the past 100 years. "Territorials receive the same training and equipment as their Regular counterparts and share the demands and rewards of operational service in Iraq and Afghanistan." The TA's 43 Wessex Brigade, which covers Devon and Cornwall, includes 243 Field Hospital's surgeons, nurses, radiographers and doctors based in Exeter and Plymouth.
