Police bid to stop 'tombstoning'
Police in north Cornwall are considering new measures to prevent people taking part in "tombstoning" in the region.

It follows an increase in the number of people seen in Bude jumping off the town's harbour wall and canal lock gates into the sea.

The police may apply for a dispersal order to move on groups that take part.

RNLI beach lifeguard supervisor Mini Fry said people needed to realise the practice could be fatal.

The charity is running a campaign to stop people jumping into the sea from cliffs and sea walls after an increase in the number of "tombstoning" rescues.

It said many of the injuries they have had to deal with involved young men and the consequences can be tragic if things go wrong.
