Novice surfers rescued in tides
Learner surfers had to be rescued after being caught in strong rip tides off the Cornish coast.

Seven amateur surfers were swept out to sea at Perranporth, despite being between lifeguard monitored areas.

The Porthtowan Lifeboat was brought in to save another surfer caught between rocks and cliffs in Chappleforth.

An elderly holidaymaker was also airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty in the water in Summerleaze Beach near Bude.

The 75-year-old man was rescued by RNLI beach lifeguards who said he was treated for exhaustion.

He was taken to North Devon District Hospital by air ambulance. His condition is not thought to be serious.

The RNLI is warning people to be wary of the conditions and to take extra care on the water.
