The cause of the crash will be investigated by the AAIB
A plane has crashed on the Isles of Scilly while landing at the airport on St Mary's.

Cornwall Fire Brigade said the light Piper aircraft, with four people on board, was coming in to land when it crashed at about midday.

Police have described it as a "ground collision" near the runway.

One person was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. The other three casualties were taken to the hospital in St Mary's.

Police said the person flown to the mainland was not thought to be seriously injured, while the others were "walking wounded" and had been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

St Mary's Airport fire and rescue, police and ambulance were all in attendance and the airport was closed while the area was made safe.

Pc Terry Hodgson from Devon and Cornwall Police said the crash has been reported to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the Department for Transport.
