Many roads are flooded following the heavy rainfall

At Calenick near Truro three people had to be rescued from a car by fire crews after they got stuck in floodwater.

Rivers at Tuckingmill and Penryn have burst their banks and many roads are treacherous, particularly the A30 at Innis Downs and parts of the A39.

The A38 at the Glynn Valley has now been reopened, it was closed earlier because of the flooding.

Peter Heron from the Highways Agency said they had no option but to close the road.

"We had to close it, the water was too deep and a lot of silt has washed down onto the road and created an obstacle."

Firefighters were called out to pump water from houses at Perranwell Station and Penryn after heavy rain fell in the area and rainwater was diverted after drains were unable to cope. At one time it was feared the Falmouth branch line could be affected.

Elsewhere the slip road westbound at Innis Downs on the A30 is flooded but passable with care.

The Met Office has issued a flash warning of more heavy rain especially across Bodmin Moor where more than an inch of rain is expected.
