Four rowers from the Isles of Scilly are setting their sights on breaking an Atlantic crossing record set more than 100 years ago. The men - all St Mary's islanders - have entered the 2008 transatlantic rowing race from New York to the Bishop Rock Lighthouse.
They are aiming to beat the record for a four-person crew of 55 days 13 hours.
Joel Bond, 23, Tim Garrat 24, Chris Jenkins, 42, and Nathan Woodcock, 23 hatched the idea in the pub.
The race recalls the feat of Norwegian Americans George Harbo and Frank Samuelsen who pulled their boat the Fox into St Mary's harbour on 1 August 1896, after leaving New York 55 days earlier with no modern aids.

Fisherman Mr Bond, sports student Tim Garrat, marine engineer Mr Jenkins and lifeboat mechanic Mr Woodcock believe they have the skills and determination to beat the record. Mr Garrat said: "With our expertise, knowledge and sea experience, we can get a bit shorter than 55 days.
"The idea was hatched in the pub, but now it's going to happen."
The rowers will be raising money for four charities.
