River deepened to prevent floods
Clean-up operation in Boscastle
The scheme will see the River Valency widened
Work has started on new 4.5m flood defences to protect the Cornish village of Boscastle from flooding.

The money is being used to help the river Valency cope with heavy rainfall and is expected to take two years.

The Environment Agency will widen and deepen the river, increasing its capacity when levels are high, and move a bridge which blocked debris.

The river burst its banks in August 2004, causing millions of pounds worth of damage.
