Yachts dismasted during sea race
Sailors on board three racing yachts in the Mini Fastnet race had to be rescued when their vessels became dismasted.

The boats were damaged in 25-knot (29mph) winds about 50 miles (80km) south west of the Isles of Scilly.

Coastguards in Cornwall have led the rescue of the vessels, believed to be Swiss, German and French.

The St Mary's lifeboat is towing one boat into Scilly. Race escort vessels are with each of the other yachts. The crews are not thought to be in danger.

The 6.5m (21ft) Minuscopic, the Volitio and the Navman yachts each have a crew of two on board and were taking part in the French-organised race, which began in Brittany.

The race has more than 80 entrants from around Europe.

The St Mary's lifeboat is towing the Minuscopic into Scilly.

It is believed the Navman will later be escorted to Ireland, and a tow is being arranged for the other vessel.
