Work starts on renal unit project
Dialysis machine
The number of dialysis units will be increased to 20
Work starts on Monday on a major expansion of the renal unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital (RCH).

Some 750,000 is being spent providing more space for dialysis units at the hospital at Treliske in Truro.

There are currently dialysis units at hospitals in Bodmin and Penzance. The RCH's 16 units are spread over two wards, which will be brought together.

The extension to the Duchess of Cornwall renal unit is expected to be finished by November.

The work means there will be enough space for 24 additional patients, and the number of dialysis units at the RCH will also be increased to 20.

Improvements are being made to comfort and safety for patients, with a modern, open plan design.
