Monarch says it will bring 15,000 passengers each year to Cornwall
New flights have been announced from Newquay airport, linking Cornwall with the Costa Del Sol for the first time.

The low cost airline, Monarch Scheduled, will fly new routes between Newquay and Malaga in southern Spain.

There will be three flights a week, beginning on 3 November, with return prices from about 75.

A Newquay Airport spokesman said it was delighted to secure the Spanish service, which makes it a "truly international airport."

Spanish tourists

Monarch Scheduled said it offered a superior service at competitive prices which it was confident would be well received in Newquay.

Tim Jeans, the airline's managing director, said: "Cornwall attracts millions of tourists each year, so just as low -ost airlines have opened up vast areas of Spain to the Brits, Monarch Scheduled is doing the same in reverse for Spanish tourists.

"The regional tourist authorities are right behind us and can't wait for the arrival of our Spanish passengers - up to 15,000 that we'll bring in each year.

"Of course, it's also great news for the people of Cornwall and Devon who'll now have access to our great low fares, right on their doorstep."
