Farm raided over migrant workers
Police raid
The site owner complained of heavy-handedness
Police in Cornwall have carried out a raid on a farm after concerns over a group of migrant workers.

Forty officers, together with the fire brigade and Kerrier District Council staff, were responding to complaints about Rosemaber Farm near Helston.

The site houses a large number of Polish and Lithuanian agricultural workers in a caravan encampment.

They said when they arrived they found some of the caravans overcrowded and some damp and cold.

Thousands of migrants seek seasonal work in Cornwall
The council say that the owners of the farm will be served with a number of enforcement notices and they will be expected to improve conditions.

David Silliphant, strategic director of Kerrier District Council, said: "We did find some accommodation that bore out our original information in that it was overcrowded and that it was substandard."

Site owner Sue Jones said: "The raid was heavy handed and unnecessary."

The police say that there are probably thousands of migrant workers working in Cornwall and they will be doing everything they can to make sure they are treated properly.
