Abandoned rabbits die on fly tip
Abandoned rabbits
All five rescued animals are female
The RSPCA is calling for help to trace the "callous" person who left a number of domestic rabbits to die on a fly-tip in west Cornwall.

Two rabbits were found dead in mud and five were rescued from the tip at Penwethers Lane, Truro.

The surviving rabbits are all female and are now at the RSPCA Venton Animal Centre, at St Columb.

Anyone with information about who owns these rabbits is urged to contact the RSPCA.

People often like to think that by leaving their rabbits in the wild they are setting them free it is usually like sentencing them to death
Jo Barr, RSPCA

RSPCA spokesman Jo Barr, said: "The callous act of abandoning animals in such circumstances in and around our county is becoming more frequent.

"Those who carry out these acts have no compassion or consideration for animals and should be ashamed of themselves."

It is illegal to abandon an animal in a manner likely to cause suffering.

Mr Barr said: "People often like to think that, by leaving their rabbits in the wild, they are setting them free, but it is usually like sentencing them to death.

"Domestic rabbits cannot cope in the wild and are in danger from the cold and are easy prey to predatory animals."
