Beaches bathe in Blue Flag glory
Porthtowan
Porthtowan: First award
Twenty six beaches in the South West have been awarded Blue Flags this year, one more than last year.

Among those making a re-entry is Challaborough in south Devon, while Dawlish Warren has been given a Blue Flag for the sixth year in a row.

Porthtowan beach in Cornwall has been awarded a flag for the first time, but Marazion beach in Cornwall, overlooking St Michael's Mount, has lost its flag.

Campaign group Encams gave Blue Flags to 119 British beaches.

The awards recognise well-managed beaches which are clean and relatively safe.

Beaches must comply with the mandatory standard of the EU Bathing Water Directive the previous year.
