Warning given on hoax fire calls
The fire service in Cornwall is warning about the dangers of hoax calls after two fire crews were called to a false alarm earlier this week.

The brigade says the use of resources on false alarms could easily result in loss of life.

Two fire engines from Camborne were mobilised after it was reported that a bedroom was on fire.

The crews attended the address given but found no fire and that the occupants had not called the brigade.

The call was made from a mobile phone in the Stithians area.

The hoax has prompted the fire and rescue service to issue a warning saying making hoax calls is a criminal offence and that if prosecuted the hoaxers could face jail.

They say the delay in the arrival of the next nearest fire appliances to genuine call-outs could result in loss of life.

They also say with the latest technology, the telephone number and address of a caller is often displayed in the control room.
