Forums looking to protect beaches
Polzeath
Forum members will help with the upkeep of Polzeath beach
Communities in north Cornwall are being asked to get more involved in maintaining local beaches.

Beach-user forums are being set up in Polzeath and Bude so local residents can help council officers decide how best to preserve and protect beaches.

Polzeath and Summerleaze will be the first to benefit from North Cornwall District Council's new management plan.

The council looks after 11 beaches. If successful, forums will be created for the other nine.

Forum members will be asked to help deal with specific issues in developing more efficient and effective approaches to managing the beaches.

At Polzeath the council will be working with the police, local community and businesses to tackle street trading near the beach car park.

Other issues include: beach safety, water quality and maintaining beach facilities.
