The conference will be chaired by Cornish MP Andrew George

The government is investing �240,000 over the next three years to promote the language, thought to be spoken by between 200 and 500 people.

It is part of the Cornish Language Strategy which was announced earlier in the year.

The conference will be chaired by St Ives MP Andrew George and will discuss the future shaping of the language.

The Liberal Democrat MP Cornish MP Andrew George, who led the campaign for Cornish to be added to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, swore his allegiance to the Queen in Cornish in May after the general election.

He was also the first MP to use the language in the House of Commons in 1997, as part of his maiden speech.

Bernard Deacon from the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter in Cornwall said he was hopeful the investment will result in an increase in the number of people who speak the language.

The conference is being held at the Combined Universities Campus at Tremough near Penryn.
