Second home owners in Cornwall could have their reserved parking spaces taken away from them. Members of Penwith District Council are expected to adopt a new policy for the town of St Ives when it meets on Wednesday evening.
About 30% of the existing residential and business parking provisions in St Ives are held by second home owners.
It means many spaces are left vacant for long periods of time resulting in numerous complaints from local people.
Fines warning
The council is proposing that to qualify for a space, residents must live permanently in the town for more than six months a year.
For a business space, drivers must operate within the catchment area and live within Penwith.
Motorists who do not display a parking permit could face a fine of �100.
If approved, the policy is likely to be enforced at the beginning of April.
