The leak in Torpoint will be fixed at night |
Residents in a Cornish town are angry South West Water (SWW) has not fixed a leak reported several weeks ago. People in Torpoint have said thousands of gallons of water have been wasted while consumers are paying high bills and SWW wants water supplies conserved.
The company said the delay is because it is beside a busy road and highway authorities want the job done at night.
SWW said night working will reduce disruption to traffic. The work is scheduled for Tuesday night.
The company said in a statement that the leak was in a small service pipe no bigger than 32mm (1.25in).
"When a leak springs, it is not just a case of going out to fix it. We have to get permission from the highways authority to do work on the road, which can often cause delays," it said.
"We have around 300 leaks reported a month and the mains leaks are prioritised over the repair of the service pipes."
