Imerys says no better site for waste has been found

Clay company Imerys wants to dump waste on a 250 acre site on the Gover valley, north west of the town.

Opponents say that valuable ancient farmland, woods, a stream and fauna and flora could be lost.

Restormel Council leader Councillor Joan Vincent says it would be a mistake, but Imerys says no better site has been found.

Councillor Vincent said: "I was horrified when I heard they were considering tipping here.

"It is a very beautiful area. So much has already been destroyed and we have to be extremely careful about what is granted in the future."

Imerys spokesman Ivor Bowditch said: "We have had detailed discussions with the county council over tipping options.
