The school offers community services 48 weeks a year |
A school in Cornwall has been singled out for praise by the government for the way it provides services to the surrounding rural area. Delaware Community Primary School has a breakfast club, after-school club and adult education classes.
It also hopes to build a dedicated learning centre to provide facilities for health and social services.
The project in Gunnislake has been so successful, there are plans to copy it in other parts of the country.
 | It's absolutely fantastic because my kids love it |
For the past two years Delaware has opened the school doors at 0745 GMT for the breakfast club and the after-school club, which includes a range of activities from sport to music, stays open until 1745 GMT.
Similar schemes have also been piloted at other schools in the region as part of the government's attempt to promote access to good public services for people in rural areas.
The school is open 48 weeks a year, which also helps working parents.
"Wrap-around" services
Debs Kemp says the school's clubs not only allow her to work, but have made a big difference to her children.
She said: "It's absolutely fantastic because my kids love it. They come skipping in the morning and always say they love going to the kids club."
Head teacher Jo Grail says Delaware gives children a wider picture about learning.
She said: "It's not a very narrow curriculum, it's about learning for life and its about embedding in them things they will keep for the rest of their lives."
Education Secretary Charles Clarke says the government hopes to extend the "wrap-around" services offered by Delaware to all primary schools.
