Sean Morley's voyage is expected to finish in September |
A policeman from Cornwall attempting a record-breaking 4,200-mile kayak trip around the British Isles has reached the most northerly point of his voyage. Sean Morley, 39, from St Erth, has rounded Muckle Flugga - an island at the northern end of the Shetland Isles.
Mr Morley hopes to become the first person to circumnavigate every inhabited island that makes up Great Britain and Ireland in a sea kayak.
He is currently on schedule to complete the challenge in September.
Encountered whales
"No doubt there will still be some difficult challenges ahead, not least crossing the shipping lanes of the English Channel and battling some of the world's strongest tides around the Channel Islands, but I know I can do it," he said.
Since setting off from Falmouth in Cornwall on 3 April, he has paddled more than 3,000 miles, burning off more than 500,000 calories.
Along the way he has battled Force 8 gales, encountered whales and sharks, and met the self-styled "king" of an Irish island.
Sgt Morley, a former member of the Great Britain kayak racing team, has previously completed a 500-mile circumnavigation of Scotland and a crossing of the St George's Channel in the Irish Sea.
His epic trip is raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Marine Conservation Society.
