A Cornish hospital is to close for six weeks next year while a 120,000 refurbishment project is completed. The West Cornwall Primary Care Trust (PCT) is investing the cash to improve the Edward Hain Hospital in St Ives.
No patients will be admitted during February while major improvements to the lifts are carried out.
Bosses say they will try to help any relatives who have problems travelling to other hospitals to visit patients during the closure.
The work will also include a revamp of the reception area and the resurfacing of the car parks.
Linda Day, hospital service manager for the West Cornwall PCT says it shows their commitment to the hospital's future and disruption to patients will be kept to a minimum.
"We can plan it down to the last detail," she said.
"As with all people-orientated issues if we have a situation where a husband, wife or relative finds it very, very difficult to find transport to another hospital during that period of time we will do everything in our power to assist that."
