A national homelessness charity says the closure of a centre in Cornwall will take away vital community links and facilities. The Breadline Centre in Penzance is being forced to close after a 20-year history of providing relief for disadvantaged people.
Shelter says the government should do more to support such centres.
The centre has had problems raising sufficient funds to keep its doors open and provide essential services.
The Cornwall manager of the homelessness charity Shelter, Ian Byworth, said more funding should be made available from central government.
He said: "It's very depressing that we still need these services in the 21st century but it's even more depressing that when we do have them we close them down like this - particularly when it's for want of funding."
